The question
“I want a more creative role, but I cannot risk my income right now.” This invented brief includes a full-time job, two free evenings a week and no emergency savings. Those constraints matter more than an attractive personality label. A test preference for novelty would be a conversation starter, not evidence that you should quit.
Two routes worth comparing
Route A is a small creative project inside your current role. It protects income but depends on your manager’s support. Route B is a two-evening personal project that lets you test the actual work. It offers independence but uses recovery time. Both are reversible; neither guarantees a new career. A third possibility is that the problem is workload rather than the profession itself.
A two-week experiment
In week one, choose one concrete task and spend two 45-minute sessions doing it, rather than researching the ideal career. In week two, show the small output to one trusted person and ask what was clear and what was confusing. Record energy before and after each session. Try this conversation: “Could I test one small project for two weeks without changing my core responsibilities?”
What would change your mind?
At the end of two weeks, compare enjoyment of the work with enjoyment of imagining the new identity. If the task consistently drains you, change the experiment before making a bigger commitment. If you enjoy it but lack time, the next question is about workload or support, not whether your personality is the right type.
